While I don't know the actual serial number of my new bass, I can make it out mostly from the photos. It looks like either 90P6058, 90P6068, or maybe 90P6088. Most things are pretty obvious from the photos except maybe the type of oval inlays, the string spacing/neck width, and the birth date.

I'll get back with the actual serial number and register the bass when it finds its way to me.

Another question on this bass, now that I am clinically insane waiting for it to get here. (It supposedly got from AZ to OH in 18 hours at an average speed of just over 100 MPH, pretty impressive for ground shipping. With less than 800 miles left to travel, I could have it for my gig Saturday, but I know better than to hope.)

From the outside, it would seem to be relatively easy to convert a Persuader into Europa Electronics. Just add a 'Q' switch and the bass/treble tone switches.

Are the three pots on the bass already the same as the ones that perform the same nominal functions on a Europa? Is this as easy as drilling three small holes in a line for the toggles and paying for the parts, assuming there is some room in the cavity? If it is this easy, what would it cost to get the parts?

No - you can't just add the bass and treble switches and make it a Europa. The Europa has a separate preamp fr each pickup, and all of the components are different between th Persuader and the Europa.

You can easily add a Q switch however.

To make it a Europa, you'll have to swap out all the guts.

Let me know when you get a clear look at the serial number. It's likely the inlays are pearloid, it was standard at the time.

Thanks, Mica. Were purpleheart neck laminates standard on five-string Persuaders? I was figuring that they would not have been, and that where there's one upgrade, there might be others.

I don't think it would be worth swapping out the entire guts to upgrade the electronics. I would rather order a fresh one. It was just a thought if the upgrade would have been inexpensive.

Is there likley to be a space issue with adding the Q switch, or is the standard cavity routing designed to support it? Is there a standard price for one of these things, or should I contact you off-line to order the parts?

I don't remember if Purpleheart neck laminates were standard or not at the time. Originally they were on a 5-string, but then we made the 5/4 Maple/Walnut pinstripe neck, I just don't remember when that was.

There's usually plenty of room for a Q-switch in a Persuader. You can call to order the Q-switch kit, it's running $55 prewired with installation instructions.

Okay, the serial number is confirmed as 90P6058.

Also, I need to vent about DHL shipping, no more bass content in this message. Sane people should not read any further.

DHL had the bass from Arizona to Ohio on the way to Massachusetts in 18 hours. At noon Wednesday, it was only about 800 miles away. There was a great chance it would be here today, until DHL sorted the package. It left Ohio for Nebraska instead of Massachusetts. Then it left Nebraska again yesterday around 5PM heading back to Ohio. Of course, if you look at the online tracking, it doesn't show anything after the first visit to Ohio, probably because they are embarassed by their mistake.

I called their customer service center twice. One woman claimed that, since it's not due for delivery until Tuesday, I shouldn't care where it is now. Another suggested that they shipped it to Nebraska because it was the best route for it to take to get here, and then reminded me that it wasn't supposed to get here until Tuesday anyway.

This might not matter, but I tried to pay the seller extra to ship it by USPS Priority Mail so that I would have the opportunity of playing it at this weekend's gig. My emails were ignored, apparently I should have phoned because their service was excellent by phone. It was going to happen, DHL was going to get it here early anyway, and then reality set in.

Sorry, just needed an outlet. I hope you didn't read this far.
