Kevin,
great you have your copy. Yes the book is really great. But, there had been many many other basses which had been in Johns collection which are not in and were sold by John over the years....

Just got my copy today.  What a fun book!  Tasty photos of beautiful axes and witty commentary by JE.  I'm sure I'll be reading and rereading it many times.

Oliver:

A question about the jeweled spider on the book's cover (I forget what John called it in the book)....Did they sell that at Sotheby's as well?

Kevin,
the Spider on the front book was sold last year at the Sothebys auction as well as his more famous and bigger black Spider pendant. Also there had been a similar one auctioned at Sothebys on Septermber 12th 1988.
This are the prices they went for:
Big black one, auctioned in 1988,
currently in Hard Rock Cafe posession  GBP 2200

Big black one, inside cover of the book, auctioned last year at Sotheby?s,
whereabouts unknown to me              GBP 1200

Gold-green one, front cover, smaller,
auctioned last year at Sotheby?s,
whereabouts unknown to me              GBP 3360

All the Spider were made by London jeweller
Michael Fishberg.

Danke Shoene! I knew that if anyone had the answer as to the dispensation of the bejeweled spider(s), or anything even remotely OX-related, it would be you. You are the man! Roger/Pete always said that John was completeley caught up in the excesses and trappings of the life of a famous rockstar. This is precisely why John's life is so interesting to me (as well as others). I understand that John's colorful excesses are the basis for the new Who tune old red wine (at least I think it's called that).

Oliver,

Yeah I saw your bass in there.  Very cool.

Now I'd like to get my hands on one of those Spider pendants.  Not one of John's, of course (hey!  I just bought a Spyder bass!  I'm not made of money!) but a replica.  Thanks Ollie for posting the name of the jeweller.  Any idea how I can get one?  Mike

Mike,
I am currently researching to find the jeweller as he is not listed in London anymore but I will find out. Send me a mail when you have time....
