Wiring for stereo

Hey there!

Just curious if anyone has wired a Stanley Clarke Signature standard from mono to stereo before?
Is that something that can be done?
It would be nice to be able to split my pickups to certain effects.

I converted my signature to stereo by getting a new wiring loom from Alembic which has a stereo/mono switch and individual volume controls for each pickup.

Not really possible with the pan control you have. The simplest/least expensive approach is what JazzyVee did. We have made Series II basses with custom stereo pan controls, so it's certainly possible, but it's also certainly the more pricey route.

a subject near and dear to my heart.  we may have discussed this before some time ago.  is it possible to get a stereo loom for my '95 essence 5-string fretless?  splitting the pickups on a fretless is the bomb.  even more so than fretted.  imho.  ymmv.  PM me or reply here.  thanks!

That's a trickier one because of space limitations and working around the existing holes. You need to keep the signal split through the output, so you need separate tone control as well. Look at your cavity and see if you can handle 2 volume, 2 filter, and 2 Q plus a stereo output jack, plus a stereo/mono switch. It may require enlarging the cavity, at least undercutting but it may even need a proper enlargement with a new backplate.

Study the space first and imagine the control layout and how that would work for you.

ok here's a shot of the contol cavity.  it's a little tighter than i remember.  what exactly has to come out and what is going in?  FWIW it can be stereo only (no mono/stereo switch necessary).  how would the controls lay out?  would it be V V T T ?   i have a local luthier who i would trust the woodwork to.  since finding my dream fretless is proving to be quite elusive, converting this bass to stereo would be a viable option imho.

edit: would it be possible to stack the volume pots?

I'd suggest emailing or calling Mica. The cost of mine would not be representative as i had already updated the Q switches from two to 3 position a few years previously, so only needed the loom for the volumes, pickup switch, jack and mono/stereo switch. But if you didn't want the 3 pos switch that may reduce the price.


As an aside, I haven't yet had a gig where running the bass in "stereo" would be a good thing, but working it out at home.
