I may be developing AOS
« on: February 05, 2026, 09:05:20 AM »
AOS = Alembic Only Syndrome.
The more I play my Distillate Exploiter and Spoiler basses, the less I want to play my others. The Alembics do it all. I just recorded a new song with the Cyberiam, and damn, the Exploiter out Rickenbackered my Rickenbackers.  ;D  I found myself getting a very Squire-esque tone and ran with it. For my Who tribute, I have an Epi T-Bird, a Fenderbird, and a P Bass. But I love the Spoiler with that band! I'm semi-joking here, but seriously!

I've been on AOS for gigs since I bought my SC Deluxe in 2002. I can't imagine using ano other brand of bass, even though there are many great sounding basses I hear at gigs.
Play on my friend.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

What became obvious to me:

After a lifetime of going and looking around in music stores, after I had my Alembics, I'd be walking around and see this or that bass, get a little interest in it, and when I picked it up, the same thing always happened:  I'd look it over, then invariably, I'd say 'But . . . . . ', that is, but what about this, but why doesn't this, but  . . . .

After a while I just quit going.  Everything I saw was suddenly just second-class citizens, always lacking in one way or another.

My SC Standard has literally ruined other basses for me. Especially now that I have tuned to tenor. I leave it out on the stand and when I play another bass I feel like its looking at me . . . judging . . .  ;D

In all seriousness though, whenever I play another bass its usually only for a few minutes before I'm back playing my Alembic.
