Hello again, it's been awhile!Back in 2023 I reported the issue of my fretless Brown Bass emitting a loud scratchy noise when the 1/4 inch plug gets moved/turned in the socket. "Bill, tgo" kindly suggested the 'exercise' the plus which cured the problem for some time. See old thread here:
https://club.alembicguitars.com/index.php?topic=27839.0
Well, the problem is back and refuses to be cured with the simple remedy. I'll attach a few photos of the electronics cavity with the plug inserted in the socket and also without. I couldn't make out anything that looks uncouth in there but I am hoping the eagle-eyed membership here can help me out with suggestions.

Many thanks in advance!

Best, Oliver

Time for a jack replacement. The plating on the contacts wears through over time causing problems like that. You'll need the one at this link:

To keep the stereo output capability, the jack mentioned by @xlroughe6 wouldn't work, as it is Mono only.

There are two possibilities of the noise problem, one the battery power switch and the other the contacts for the signal.    To troubleshoot, suggest you install a temporary jumper between the two battery contacts:  the red wire terminal and the red with white stripe wire terminal.   This will keep the battery on all the time.     Let us know if the noise goes away with the jumper, or if it remains.    May be able to suggest a fix without replacing the jack depending on the result you get.

If you've always used the same guitar cable, just for yucks, try a different 1/4" guitar cable. I've had two different makes of 1/4" cable jacks act differently on a certain bass; one acting up and the other working fine. Worth a try.

The jack in the pics is wired mono.

Thank y'all so much for your suggestions. I will try the battery bridge trick and see what that does and report back.

Yes, I tried with various guitar cables with the same result.

Cheers, Oliver

Well, this is interesting...I did not actually play the Brown Bass again after closing it up after poking around in the electronics bay before posting here.
Today I plugged the bass in and no noise no matter which cable I use.
The only thing I actually did while I was looking at the jack was to straighten it to get the edges parallel to the square cutout that marks its place (OCD, I know). I don't know if that could have made any difference, but fact is, at this time I cannot replicate the fault, so I guess the problem is "solved" for now.
I'll be back if the issue reappears.
Thank y'all again for the hand-holding.
Cheers, Oliver

Good to hear, maybe the adjustment made better contact with the shielding paint or something similar.  Congrats!

Could one of the solder tabs on the jack have been making intermittent contact with the shielding paint before you straightened it? It could explain why it happened when the cord was plugged in since the cord will cause the jack to move slightly.

It is pretty tight in there, so the suspicion that there was some inadvertent contact sounds reasonable. I guess for now I let it be and keep my fingers crossed -- when I'm not playing. 🤞🏻 Not that there would be much of a difference with my poor playing ... ha!
Cheers Oliver
