Shopnight Guitar?
« on: December 26, 2025, 01:42:56 PM »
It's being sold as a prototype.

I've heard about 'production prototype' Alembics... I know of a couple. They're usually marked as such AFAIK. This looks like an employee project that someone stuck a logo pin on in place of a logo. Other than that I see a Blaster mounted permanently and what appears to be some activators. It looks like a cool guitar. There was a time I'd have been interested.

Thougts, anybody? In particular, thoughts on legitimacy.

All I know is that, based on what little I know, I would not expect Alembic to have, let alone use, Fender-branded tuners, nor a non-scarfed headstock.

Agree about the Fender branded machines, but unless my little mobile screen deceives my eyes, it is a scarfed headstock, or at least backstrapped. Still looks like a Shopnight to me.

Not only that, but been repaired. Fix looks good.

Wow, I used to own this guitar!  I sold it in 2017 for A LOT less   It didn’t have the Alembic pin attached to the headstock at the time.  It already had the headstock repair when I had it.  It is indeed a “Shopnight” guitar, not a prototype.  Two Alembic Strat-shaped pickups running through a Strat-O-Blaster.   I found it at the Three Amigos World Guitar Show in San Rafael.  I just wrote to the Reverb seller and explained the guitar’s provenance.  I’ll be curious to see if the seller revises the listing.

Ah - upon closer examination, I see a line I missed before, running NW to SE across the left terminus of the break that may, in fact, be a scarf joint (I'm looking at a desktop monitor now, which is a bit larger than the one on the laptop I was using earlier).
