History Calling
« on: December 16, 2025, 09:19:32 AM »
Little plug for a YouTube channel I stumbled upon a while back and just kinda' got hooked on... I was going to post it in the Listening Thread, and it is just that; listening. Not music related in the slightest.

You can read her bio there at the front, but briefly put, R.L. Weston is an historian and author based in Northern Ireland. She was lecturing at a university there until the lockdowns put the skids on that gig, and so began her independent work. A lot of the content is regarding medieval European history, but she does venture often to other subjects and time periods. There's a lot of content about Tudor Kings and Queens. This week's post was a bit further back, on Matilda of Scotland, the so-called runaway nun who became Queen of England.

I find the content fascinating and her voice soothing. Best of all, no AI nonsense. She is very thoroughly researched, and does not excuse easily those who are not. I get the sense she probably didn't mind flunking the lazy ones.

Ok, as an historian (as opposed to a history buff), my interest is piqued; I'll check this out later & report back.
