[FOR SALE] Series 1 S/N 81 2002
« on: November 28, 2025, 04:07:11 PM »
Tricky letter box that wants 6 letters but only shows 5.    Let me try this again.....  thought I'd post some pics and mention that I would like to sell this bass.
Original case, cable and power supply.  Any input on value and where to go from here most appreciated.

I was hoping to get some input from some of the regulars on here about it's value.  As my original post was a serial number request I hadn't done much research on value.  I'm in south Florida.

Here’s some feedback:
A bass is worth what a buyer is willing to pay.  That’s a beautiful bass, it may be someone’s dream bass and they will be willing to pay top dollar.   We have seen Alembics sold for “fair” prices as well as seen them sold for (IMHO) severely inflated prices.  There are times when a bass is sold for a fair price and a week later a “flipper” marks it up $6000 and attempts to sell it on another platform.

Certain that someone here can suggest a fair market value price for a Series I.

Having pictures of the electronics cavity is a plus.  Video displaying full functionality of all switches and what not would also be a plus given the bass’s age.

I see the power supply and 5-pin cable are included as well as a case.  There was a Series I bass in Portland,OR without a cord and power supply that sat for over 4 months then disappeared. (Don’t know if it sold) for $5,400.  There are club members here that are trying to sell their Series I with power supply and cable for $6,500.  I’ve been watching the market for Series I basses for two years now.  You have a nice 44yo bass there but with all things older, buyers are going to want to see photos of the control cavities. There could be noisy controls or evidence of a leaking battery, etc.

Pauldo and garyhead,  Thanks for your input. I guess using the word market instead of value would have been more appropriate in my question as it pertains to what a buyer is willing to pay. I consider the members here to be the experts on this as opposed to the crazy wild prices from an internet search. Thanks also for the advice on pictures and video. I had seen pictures of control cavities on here and hadn't given much thought to it but I now understand.
More and better pictures to come........

A little history,  the 2 toggle switches where replaced in appx. 2019 purchased from Alembic and installed at my friends shop where someone there lost the brass battery cover hence the black plastic one. All else is original (except strings) and works great.  I've had the bass since the early '80s and rarely played it.  Between loving my jazz basses and the thought of taking this expensive instrument into some smoke and cocaine filled bar (SoFlo in the '80s) it just rarely got played.  Included with the bass are the 2 pages of wiring diagrams from Alembic should you ever need them.

After plugging this bass in and playing it last night I have to say that I can make this bass sound like a P or J bass but there's no way the those basses could ever come close to all the colors available on this series one. I almost changed my mind...  Unfortunately it's time to say goodbye it.  I'm looking for $6500.00 for the bass, case, power supply and cable.
