Author Topic: The treble switch on my Rogue....... (Read 479 times)

has started to produce a very loud pop when I switch it to the -db position.I have grown accustomed to using this switch frequently and since,doing so has become a liability.I know that the good members of this club can shed some light on this problem and I offer my humble thanks in advance to anybody who can suggest a fix.

Dave,

I had a similar problem with my Spyder's Q Switch. The bridge pickup Q Switch made a clicking/popping noise everytime I used it. I took a photo of the control cavity, and sent it to Mica. She told me it was missing a resistor, and to have a local repairman fix it (and Alembic would pay for it). As it turns out, my repairman (Jim Warwick of Jim Warwick Guitars (www.jwarwickguitars.com) fixed it in about two minutes on the spot for me. Took care of the problem right away. You might want to take a pic of your control cavity (if you have a digital camera or access to one) and send it to Alembic. Might be the same thing (or a bad resistor) I had, but I'm not the expert. Anyway, my two cents.

Thanks so much for the info.I must look into getting a digital camera this year hence the reason I haven't posted more pics of my bass.I'll look into the cavity to see if there is any difference in the three switches.Speaking of posting pics,I have the hardest time trying to post the pics I do have to offer in this forum.It's always a size issue.

Dave,

What I've had to do to get pictures on the site is resize them and decrease the resolution. If you don't feel comfortable posting them, you can always send them to a club member more savvy with this kind of stuff and they'll do it for you. Oliver did that for me on my Spyder. I can do it for you as well if you wish (as long as I'm home - I'm leaving on business in the next few days).

Ahh yes.I have been sucessful in the past with resizing but now for some reason,I can't get her done.Thank you for your kind offer and if I absolutly cannot get it done,I will send a couple to you.I'll try again later tonight.

I wonder if someone can post with the value of the resistor and where it should be installed. My MK also pops sometimes when switching the Q switches. I imagine it is just a high value like 1 meg or 10 meg across the switch contacts.

Hi!

I have the same problem with my Rogue, but it
happens on both the treble and the bass switch.
Once you switch it a couple of times, the popping sound goes away, which leads me
to believe I have a dirty contact.

Does this seem reasonable?

I'll ask my dad about the Europa Q switch - I don't think it's the same as the AE-2 filters in the Essence, Signature and 20th Anniversary electronics. Here's the placement of the 1 Meg resistor on these AE-2 filter:

Adding this resistor should remove any pops.

For resizing pictures, I suggest saving with the longest edge to no more than 500 pixels and reducing the qualty setting on the JPG compression. You shouldn't have to use less than 6 if you keep the longest edge to less than 500 pixels.

For technical support questions, you can email a picture to help@alembic.com and don't worry about the size, we can handle large pictures there. I put the restriction on the Club picture size to keep download times lower and also to help prevent enormous pictures that scroll off the page.

You should still be able to load a large picture as an attached file to a post, it just won't automatically display.

The problem doesn't seem as bad if you switch it again soon. I tried switching it back & forth in case it was a dirty contact but this did not change it at all. I wonder if my bass is missing a resistor or has a bad one although the bass has done it since it was new. Mica, if you read this let me know what you think. I had mentioned this to you when I got the bass but decided back than I could live with rather than send it back to for repairs. Thanks
