beautiful top.  jsut up hte road from me.  sorta.  if i wanted to go from 5-strings to 6 here's how i'd do it.  my bandmates already think i'm too twangy, be kinda fun to show up to rehearsal with this old girl.  give that C-string a nice smart snappin' here and agin.  not a bad price. imho.  ymmv.  and all that rot.

good luck to all!

Love my 6-er Essence.  It was my main workhorse for a decade.  I have a fretless Orion in the same scale....very helpful with muscle memory.  The snooty fiddle player in my last band was surprised I played a fretless "in tune."  There is a fretless Essence 6 on reverb right now....body wood looks like the fretless twin of the bass you speak of.
Where are we going...and why am I in this Handbasket?

That was a decent price !  Although my Essence 6 was a tad lower several years ago from an east coast seller ;D .

yeah, i think you mean this one.  i'm playing a lot of fretless lately,  if i was in a jazz-ier kinda band, this just might be a real temptation.  however, i like my slickboards unlined and lit up if i'm gonna leap again.   kinda looks like somebody put thumb rests right above the B-string on that one.  yikes!

i'm in an 80's cover band full of snooty musicians.  recently, my mindset has shifted from  being fretted only to getting my fretlessess some stage time.  it turns out that i can play fretless on about 3/4 of our songs, so i take one to rehearsal and only go fretted when i absolutely have to.  no complaints about my intonation (yet).  it does take more of my focus to keep it that way.  my fretless essence 5-er is set up with flats so it's real thumpy and old-school sounding.

I have a non-Alembic fretless with an extended thumb rest.   Lots of sonic possibilities are available.

Plus the non-factory toggle switch.  What's your guess on that - mute or power?  Would make quite a noise if it was power...

different strokes for different folks.  you've got an intersting bass there, sir.  my essence fretless is a 5-er, i  just did a rough measurement of the string displacement from center when i goose the B-string and i get aboot 3/8".  that would be pretty close to hitting the thumb rest on the reverb bass.  while playing, i either plant my thumb on the neck pickup or on the neck uparound the 14th position. or on the B-string itself.  that thumb rest would be the first thing to go if i bought it.  which i won't.

yeah, i missed that first time around.  looks like some home lutherie gone bad.  kinda gives ya a preview of what you'll find in control cavity should you be foolish enough to venture within.  $4400 USD?   good luck to all!
