Does anyone know of a good shop in Colorado to take a 1991 Europa for a tune-up?  Ideally it would go back to Alembic, but I think they're swamped with more important work.  Thanks!

If by "tune-up" you mean adjusting relief, action, and intonation for best playability, the best shop could be... your house!

Joey's Post on Setting Up Your Bass

My Alembic is my easiest bass to set up.

With that said, there are some things I don't do myself. My bass has a date with the PLEK machine at Mike Lull Guitar Works next week. Apparently the previous owner played a lot on the money frets and even a little fret wear down there limits how low I can get the action overall.

What's it need Kevin? I recall a thread where you were having RF noise issues. If it's other, we can help you there. I'll be glad to converse by phone on setup stuff. I'd be glad to just do it for you but shipping to Virginia would be ridiculously expensive.

The RF thing is the most troublesome, but hoping the 14 pin RF upgrade will fix the issue when Alembic gets them in stock.  This one has me puzzled.  There is no rhyme or reason for when it happens, though it does seem to be more often lately.  Plenty of battery life, so it's not the easy answer.

Also want to change out the 1/4 input, which I can do myself, but the Alembic one is $19 plus $35 shipping, so waiting on the RF upgrade to pay for shipping once.

It also has fret sprout pretty badly, and some of the frets have been worn down more than others.  I'm not super experienced working on my own basses, so thought someone with a good eye could also give it a once-over and give it some love, since it's a 34 years old and likely never been worked on.

I love this bass, so want to do whatever I can to maintain and preserve it.

Thanks all

The fret 'sprout' is a pretty easy fix, but if you have some wear too, might as well straighten that out while it's on the bench. Are the frets dress-able, or need replaced? Definitely get someone who is experienced for this.

Just a guess on the jack; the Turbify store has some way of calculating shipping that isn't always correct... I doubt the $35 shipping would be applied to a 1/4" sidejack. Probably a good idea to wait for the RF upgrade plug-in anyway. Every time I've gotten a part from the Mothership it's come in either a flat rate box or small package.

Ideally one of those shops closer to you can install the parts and get the fretwork back in order. Might be a thing where you need a separate shop. I would not compromise on fretwork...

Just waiting on the 7-pin connectors for the RF upgrade board for Europas. Then testing. Will definitely be back in stock by the end of the month.
