I guess available domain names go pretty quick.

Good domain names are sometimes transferred in exchange for monetary compensation  ;)

I hope alembic that is what happened here, and if my memory serves me well, they bought the alembic.com domain off a previous owner.

I just took a look at the new alembic.com and was pleased to note that there's a "Looking for Alembic Guitars?" link at the bottom of the page. So this appears to be amicable, not just someone snatching up an abandoned domain.

It will be interesting to see how long Alembic AI lasts. I expect the whole AI fad to pass within about a year. People are starting to figure out that "Artificial Intelligence" is a half-truth (the "artificial" part is true).

A recent article on Ars Technica summarized AI succinctly as "a pattern-matching system that generates statistically likely text responses to a user-provided prompt." This isn't really anything new, it's just being done on a vastly larger scale (datacenter capacities are no longer measured by CPU counts or memory capacity, just in acres and gigawatts).

Sorry, kinda getting off the topic of Alembic instruments....  ::)

Hope you are correct.  Had a discussion in the shop about the young generation questing for answers and believing what pops up on their screens… no research, no verification, no scientific data, just swallow what They tell you is the “truth”.

My middle son - who at 43 should know better - is convinced ChatGPT is the greatest thing to ever happen to humanity.  I defecate thee not; he has told me that he gets stuff off there, so he "knows it's 100% correct; it never gets it wrong!"
This after he entered my name and "soundman Chicago" into it (with me on the phone) and read back a very flattering and quite accurate summation of my sound career - and then described 2 of the bands I worked for as "part of the thriving Chicago punk scene of the '80s".
Worked in many genres - but never punk; one of the bands so named did covers of New-Wavish pop hits of the mid '80s, the other did '60s covers.
I never really felt real punk during "Land Of 1000 Dances" or Harlem Nocturne"......
And in the last week I have gotten so frustrated with customer-service-denial AIs that I have told them to delete their worthless selves.

Peter (who more and more sees Ted Kazenski's point.....)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Money talks!
As far as AI - I'm not a fan. I have to admit, my band is using it for some graphics to go along with a couple of singles we're about to release. But what really bothers me is these photos people post all over social media of famous dead people hanging out together, or announcements of a Led Zeppelin or Beatles reunion with terrible AI images of the surviving members. And the icing on the cake is all the people who believe this crap and share.  ::)

as a lifelong software engineer (now retired) i get a pretty good laff at these vibe coding guys who think they can just tell their AI agent to design them an app or whatever without any prior knowledge of computer science and then they wonder why it's an unmaintainable buggy incomphrensible security nightmare.  but i guess that's the way the world works these days.

our keybroad player (who's my age) had a chatbot design our band logo.  i guess i'm ok with that.  and least it won't kill anybody or leak all our PII.  probably.   not really onboard with the AI.  ain't got many years left anyways.  good luck to all!
Been down...now i'm out!
