THE EQUIPMENT

This column is back for the second time, and this month we will be reporting on some unique original guitars from America,

I would like to introduce the guitar and bass parts of Hall & Oates, who recently finished their Japan tour with great success.

Bruce Vec Bar's Snake Guitar

For the first half of this month, we'll be changing things up a bit and introducing some unique original guitars.

This is where the incredibly flashy guitar in Photo I comes in.

Some people may think it looks like an Alembic, and you're right. It's an original guitar made by someone called Bruce Beck-Verse, who used to work at Alembic.

So the electrical system is exactly the same as the Alembic's PF-6 active circuit.

His approach to guitar making is to bring the artistic techniques of instrument making from the 17th century directly into the current electric guitar. The extravagant inlays are eye-catching, and two snakes are carved on the side of the body.

What's more, the bag (Photo 2) is also very flashy.

The body is made of Hawaiian Koa, birdseye maple, rosewood, and ebony, and the snake's head (Photo 3) is luxuriously made with ivory fangs and turquoise eyes.

The name of this guitar is, of course, the Snake Guitar. Apparently, the same guitar is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and John Paul Jones also owns one of his guitars.

He is apparently a big fan of the "Handmade Electric Guitars" and is planning to publish a book called "Handmade Electric Guitars" early next year. If you are interested in him, please contact Bruce Bec Var at P.O.Box64 COTATI, CA, U.S.A.94928.

This report was also submitted by Tom Farrington, who has been sending photos to "California Music Scene." We plan to continue introducing unique original guitars in this column.

It must have taken a while to whittle that one out.
