Whats, the history behind the bridge block?
What kind of material and dimensions is the bridge block build?
Is it so much drastic the sound change with one of this, and how does affect the bass?

it's actually for sustain, the bridge sits on top of a hunk of brass and the strings will just ring, ring, ring in sustain!
