I need to sell my late brother's Distillate, so I need any info available on the features or unique facets of this build.

Dominic,
Condolences to the loss of your brother.   Distillate’s are fine basses.

If you can, posting a few pictures will allow club members to tell you a lot while allowing Mica time to look up the build information.

Hey Dominic,

So sorry for your loss.  Nice of you to help sort out the estate.

I see you've already listed this bass on Reverb so you already know the pertinent information and I think your asking price is in the right ballpark.  Not sure what else you want to know.  It's a beauty and appears to be in excellent condition so hopefully somebody will buy it and play the heck out of it.

It looks like a very clean example of a '90 Distillate.  Aside from being that clean, the top is another distinguishing feature.  I'd say it's coco bolo.  Nowadays that would be a premium wood and affect the price of a new instrument quite a bit.

Otherwise, it appears to have all the regular Distillate features: mahogany body, five-piece maple/purpleheart neck, crown headstock and ebony fretboard.  The body is the second style for Distillates, with an extended upper horn.

I hope this helps.

This is a fine example of a Distillate. However, you have it listed in the price range of a Series 1 bass as can be seen in two posts on Reverb. Good luck to you on the sale and hopefully it will find a new home.

First off, I'm sorry about your brother.  :(

Prices are so hard to judge these days due to the fact that so many sellers are willing to leave listings up for literally years at outrageous asking prices. In my opinion, your asking price is about $2K too high, but I see you are accepting offers, so maybe leave it where it's at for a bit and see what happens. You can eventually lower the price some and all the people watching it will get notified. It's a good way to keep it on people's radar.
Distillates are probably my favorite Alembics. I used to have one like your brother's, but with a walnut top and 34'' scale. The only reason I no longer have it is because I bought another with an Exploiter body and the usual 32'' scale.

PS - I see you're in Naperville. I'm not too far away, and I rehearse there.

Thanks! I wondered if it had a coco bolo top but I could only guess.
