Folks there is a new chapter in this star crossed bass. Last night while we slept someone walked into the house and took our laptop and the bass. Nothing else was taken so it looks like whoever did it knew what they were after.
Im going to canvas the guitar shops and pawn shops in the area today. Any one in the Washington D.C. area that sees it please contact me at 703-975-3819. I could care less about the laptop but this bass was intrusted to me because the owner thought it would be safe here, I have to get it back.

Just wanted to say sorry to hear about such a loss. I hope you will be able to retrieve the bass and the laptop and crucify the person responsible for the theft!

Thanks for the words of encouragement I will keep the club posted as to what happens. I found out today that the bass is covered under my homeowners policy but if I make the claim they will probably drop me. Oh well. This bass cant be replaced no matter how much money you throw at it. Im just really hope it turns up.

If you're forced to make the claim, and they drop you, then contact your state Attorney General first, then the local TV news. As a media person, I can safely say look at this guy gettin' a raw deal from The Man stories get play.
At the same time, get in touch with every local music store and pawn shop you can reach...on the off chance it wasn't an inside job, the thief will be looking to offload the bass for cash fast. Cash rewards tend to get results too.
I trust there's already a police report on file?

I notice that when I submit a post from home, I get a Server Not Responding messge...and it prompts me to click here to reload. It seems that even though this message appears, my reply did post, for if I just exit the page and come back to the thread my message will appear...but if I hit reload as instructed...then I will get the 'ol dreaded duplicate post. Might be similar issue here.

Kungfu certainly does have good advice, as it certainly doesn't make sense for you to be penalized for using something that you have been paying for to use for this very purpose.

From my limited experience in the insurance racket, you don't get dropped for one claim. If you do, oh well, there are lots of insurance companies out there more than willing to take your money. There also may be a limit on the company's liability (usually a pitance) if you do make a claim. More often than not they want you to carry a separate rider for musical instruments in order to get Replacement Cash Value. Check your policy...

I too recently had a bass stolen, not one of my Alembics thankfully, and the PD caught up to the little juvenille delinquents and I got it back from one of the pawn shop I had checked out myself earlier. I was lucky. I hope you are too.

The words insurance commissioner come to mind....
If they try to cancel you, ask your insurance company for the insurance commissioner's phone number... It works wonders.

To answer a few questions. Yes there is a police report. The insurance company didnt say directly that we would be dropped but she did hint at it. I dont care if they drop me or not I would much rather be able to replace my friends bass than worry about that. Like jet powers said there are plenty of insurers around. I dont believe it was an inside job because we found out that the neighbors scared someone off who was trying to turn there doorknob that same night , besides ther were not many people who knew I had it and those that did thought it was in my shop. I think we just got incredibly unlucky. We have checked with a bunch of the local pawn shops and music stores and have put out flyers everywhere with a $1000.00 reward for the return of the bass. I hope this shakes some trees.
