Well there goes summer
« on: April 17, 2025, 06:33:27 PM »
so i show up at rehearsal today with the dog as i always do (2 1/2 year old goldern retriever 90 lbs. US) put out her in the back yard to play with her buddy (ezactly the same as her except brown).  i bend down to unhook my dog, the other one body checks me  while i'm not looking.  foot stays planted, whole body rotates.  dislocated ankle, leg broken in 3 places.  pain like i've never had.
so - off to the ER, got a big honkin temp cast.  probabaly gonna hafta have surgery.  got our maiden flight gig memorial day.  just took a load of pain pillls and now im gonna pass out while thinking of a better life.  rats!  :-(

at least we settled on a band name and got a spiffy new logo so i guess it coulda been worser.  pills are kickin in.  whoooOOO000OOOOooooo....

web site's glitchin out on me now.  wtf

OOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Well that sux.   You might want to get yourself a good stool as you may well be playing sitting down for a while.  I use one of these (I have spinal stenosis and can no longer stand for a 2-3 hour gig).   Hope you feel better soon.

I feel your pain!

Or at least I feel some pain, and thus can relate (my current burden is spondylolisthesis (T12 done went and slud back on L1 and is pressing against the spinal cord) and an utter and complete lack of disc material betwixt L5 & S1 - which the evil AI says is "a rare and significant condition, often a result of advanced degenerative disc disease or injury. This can lead to instability in the lumbar spine, potentially causing pain, nerve compression, and other complications."

May 28 they're going to put spacer cages in those 2 places & fuse L2-S1 and then (the hardware for that fusion being a long-ass lever & S1 being a tiny bone) out onto the pelvis.

Recovery from which will be complicated by the fact that Senior Management went in April 3 & had Her C2-C5 fusion extended to C2-T3; brought Her home Monday.

Remember that lever thing I mentioned?   Saturday it fractured T3 where the screws went in, & pressed a piece into the spinal cord hard enough that She couldn't stand; Monday they went back in, relieved the pressure, and fused C2-T6.  Don't know when She'll get out of the hospital - but when She does, it will be to move to a residential acute rehab facility (those of you have been around 5 years or more may recall my own adventures in such as establishment.....) for an undetermined length of time.

All of which is a long, round-about way of saying "Damn!  That sucks, and I have an idea just how badly!"

Take care, Been; follow the medicos' instructions closely, go slow, and take Bill's advise to heart.  Remember, sitting worked just fine for Skunk Baxter, Tal Farlow, plenty of other jazz pickers, most keyboardists & drummers, etc., the overwhelming bulk of classical and Dixieland cats, and so on.  No shame to it.

Hope you heal soon & well.

Peter (who, no, will not be playing fusion music after......)

thanks for the support guys!  it's tougher when ya live alone with no safety net.  looks like a cold crappy day here in the mile high so we're gonna spend the day making phone calls to doctors, etc.  the temp cast doesn't really bend at my knee so i hadda take a drywall saw to it and relax it a little.  surprisingly, now that the ankle's back place, the pain's manageable with weed and caution. my bandmates have been quite accomidating.  i guess i would'nt be a fall risk if i didn't have 90 lb. dogs body-slammin me.

i have just enough mobility to get in and outta the car and hobble aroud the house.  hopefully the next cast is below the knee.

gonna press on as best i can.  obtw, our keboard player opened an AI session and told it to makes us a logo.  it does pop.  imho.  and least no more band name bingo.  that was getting tiresome.

Well, I don't know the band to say if either is more appropriate, so I'll say that just on GP, Madhouse kicks butt on Bingo....

Well, last year my Alembic's played a great role in my recovery.....It was my main motivation for PT and healing.  That day I reached up and grabbed the neck of my Classico is burned in my memory banks.  Partly because I was talking to Mica at the time about my tale of woe.  Didn't realize what happened until the next day.

If ya have to "Skunk Baxter" it for the next 12 months it's better than the alternative of not playing at all.  Heal Well.

madhouse is the name of the orginal band from the 80's.  i'm hte new guy  (the old guy drank hisself to an earrly grave).  there was allota heartburn keeping the old name, i was all for it but apparently there was some history and drama to overcome.  i think the new logo rocks, i didn't know it was AI generated until later on.  hope that doesn't cause some sorta trademark issue.

Glad you are home and able to move a bit.

All the new science in weed, doesn’t one of the thc’s or cbd’s (A, B, etc) focus on physical ‘numbing’?

yeah ive got some high concentration rub that i use on my aching joints and it's quite effective, especially when combined with voltarin. to the point where i stopped taking NSAIDs over a year ago.  just had the splint redone.  surgery monday 0900 gonna put a plate in to mend the breaks. doc says ill walk in a month.. this pain goes beyond rub, so im on pills.  don't like, it id rather be smoking dope but don't wanna compromise my balance since im on crutches.  but since im done for the day, gonna get horizontal and baked to the gills here shortly.  yay! 😵‍💫🤯
