4 string bass: Serial 94W8703 USA

Hi all,

I have purchased a Alembic recently and is very interested in getting some more info about my new favorite instrument. I know it's from 1994 and a model called Epic but nothing more really.

Wont ever sell it but it is always fun to know the value.

Could you guys help me out? - I have attached some photos.

Hi Henrik, welcome to the Club!

Not sure about the top wood, but it might be Koa with "watermark" figuring, which we don't see that often. It's a close cousin to my Epic which is 94W8256 and has more of a flamey Koa top.

Yeah there is a LOT if different woods on the site so kinda hard to know exactly what it is.

Hm after some more research today, this looks like burl maple, burl myrtle or even burl redwood to me. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'm guessing Adriaan has this one correctly ID'd as watermark koa.... that bubbly stuff fooled me before a couple times. If you enter those terms in the search box above right, a few threads will show up where there are some pictures.


Whatever it turns out to be on the card, you have a gem there.

I'm in the "not burl maple" camp. My bass has burl maple top wood (officially, per Mica) and it looks significantly different.

Epic is a nice body shape to look at, and even nicer to hold, enjoy it!
