In Search Of: Entwistle Spyder Bass
« on: March 20, 2025, 12:22:19 PM »
Dear Alembic Nation,
I missed the Entwistle Spyder on its initial production run (four-string) and am very interested in buying a used one. I've been searching for a while and all I can find are examples that have already sold. If you have one (or hear of one) that is coming up for sale, I would really appreciate being considered. Thanks in advance, and thanks to Mica for recommending this forum.

Best Regards,Tom

Hi Tom.   Your area code indicates Milwaukee.  I’m in the Sherman Park area.

No Spyder… I had a Zebrawood Exploiter at one time.

Good luck on your quest.  They show up once in awhile.

Hi Tom , Philip here,

Even if you're not interested in an 8 string , you should be aware of this Ax  8)

Located in Texas

Still listed as "available"!

never heard of these guys before,  their site doesn't have any loacation information looks like they're in the austin area, at least their phone is.  interesting that they don't list the price, but they do have a 2003 orion 5-string listed at $8500 USD  :o

good luck with your seach, these things are scarce as hen's teeth and are pretty spendy when ya do find one.  $12k was the last i saw one listed about 4 years ago, pretty sure current pricing would be shocking to say the least.

good luck to all!

I believe I saw one on Reverb late 2023.  It was the cone headstock 4-string.  I'm looking for that one too.  The price was $15,500.  I balked and it was snapped up a day later.  That's a lot of money to fork over on short notice.  It was located in Tehachapi, CA

I'm assuming the 8-strings are available as they are still listed on the Alembic price list.
Where are we going...and why am I in this Handbasket?

Sherman Park--small world! Sounds like you had a great bass there. I picked up a fantastic spoiler many years ago (bubinga) and absolutely love it. Thanks much for responding.

Thanks much to all for postings--really, what a supportive community.
I appreciate the leads you shared. I'd rather not take on an 8-to-4 string conversion, but that's a resourceful idea. I have a mid-80s spoiler which looks a lot like the Spyder. I have considered the one currently online that matches but, but for now am hung up on the Spyder.
Thanks again, all for the fast turn on this. Fingers are crossed that something surfaces at some point.

Thank you, Tom,

I will post here if I find anything else, so check periodically :)

I use other search engines besides Google

So, I do manage to find an interesting thing or two at times

We will certainly meet up on flip side

Wonderful, thank you! I'll definitely check back. Or just give me a shout at the number above. Really nice of you, thanks.
