I really hate to have to do this folks, but with the recent wildfires and mayhem here in Los Angeles, I am offering up my 1978 Series I medium scale fretted bass in outstanding original condition.  It is an unusual bass with matching vermillion top and back, and an almost never done maple pinstripe between the mahogany core and the vermillion.  There are no issues and it plays great with the original frets, finish, electronics, and case.  For those interested, please PM me and I will send pricing and photos to your email.  This has been an exhausting week trying to help multiple friends and family members who have lost their homes.  I am hoping this sale will get me through a hard time.

Wow, it's probably a good thing I didn't see this before it sold! :) I've been jonesing for a medium-scale Series I for years, and vermillion (aka padauk) is one of my favorite instrument woods!

Question about this though:
...an almost never done maple pinstripe between the mahogany core and the vermillion.
I was under the impression that Alembic always puts a contrasting wood laminate in between the top wood and the mahogany core, no?
Or am I conflating Alembic and Wal?

They most often did not during that era. It’s a more recent thing. None of my series instruments which are early to mid 80s has them other than a shop night special that has ebony lams between the core and front and back.

Series I basses originally had 3-piece bodies so no accent laminates. Series II got 1/8" accent laminates. What is unusual about this bass is the pinstripe (veneer) accent for the time.

Flipped in a week (assuming that the original sale went through).  I hope our member got what he needed from the original sale and our thoughts go out to you and others impacted by the CA fires.
