thanks, folks.  i'm still goin thru video from the show so i dunno if i got a keeper on the SII yet.
here's another one from later on in the evening when i was playing the pretty bass.  apparently the liquor was flowing.  didn't realize what was going on until i was going through the video from the show.  i gotta wear shades on stage because my eyes have become sensitive to bright lights over the years so i couldn't see the dance floor.  apparently it got kinda crazy.   whoooOOOOooo!

Hope you'll post something with the SII as well!

here ya go.  i'm gonna preface this by reminding ya that we're an 80's cover bar band.  i'd like to think my personal musical taste is a little more refined but i go with the flow.  i only wore the SII for the 1st set.  almost every song in that set had something weird  go on somewheres in it.  so it was either post this one or "dreams" by VH.  you can thank me later.

cheers!.

Those sound great!  Both basses come through well.  Whole band’s energy is high-voltage.
4 hours at that pace has to be a workout.

Never liked Turn Me Loose until now - it’s the tightness, the sincere “we’re having fun” vibe, sound mix, all of it.  😎

Thanks for sharing.

thank you, sir.  you are much too kind.  i may have sacrificed whatever artistic integerty i ever had by getting  back into an 80's cover band but it gets me up on a stage at age 69 with a bunch of other similarly afflicted old duffers and people actually come out to hear us.  it's too much fun.  almost.  besides, ya can't help but smile when ya get to take a setup like this out for a gig.  kinda like driving yer ferrari to the company picnic.
looks like it's back to the woodshed.  got a bunch more 80's songs to learn for the next show. holiday season's coming up.

cheers!

You had me from the very first note on that bass! Authoritative without being overbearing, I think it really suits the vibe of the band.

The audio seems a lot better balanced recording from a little further away. Is that still captured with the same tablet, or something else?

Agreed.  The bass sound fits very nicely.  Did you roll the high-end back a bit?

my mobile sudio consists of a rode USB stereo lapel mic system hooked up to a samsung S10 tablet in selfie mode.  i set it on a music stand in front of a tree about 8 feet from center stage and pointed the mics at the far corners of the stage.  so what you hear is mostly FOH with a little bit of stage sound leaking in.  our stage volume is not loud.  we hire a sound guy for our shows.  i'm pretty happy with his mix.  he seems to capture my tone well, i can sure tell which bass i'm playing when i listen to the playback.   i use a radial stereo-to-mono DI box for the FOH.

so this is mobile recording on the cheap.  this tablet gets pretty good video out of the front camera (12 MP camera). one of these days i'm gonna try using the rear camera which is the better of the two.  i originally bought the rode for recording bass selfies, it's how i got my foot in the door with this band.  there's a much more capable DJI 3 system on the market now, but this rig seems to work pretty well if i set it up right, so i'm not particularly motivated to upgrade it.

cheers!

<edit>  that's an AI-enhanced photo.  yikes!

OK here's a coupla more out takes from the old guys in the basement.  Since i joind this band aboot a year ago, my fretlessesses have been languishing on thier hangers because we're an 80's cover band and with the exception of "boys of summer", i got myself in the mindset that none of our material is really suited for fretless.  a few weeks ago i got the hankering to play the other half of my collection for a change and started working the 5-string essence into my daily practice routine.  sadly, i'd really like to work the A-bass into our sets, but most of our songs require 5 strings.

so here's a coupla scratch takes done with the mighty 5-string essence strung with flats.  this bass doesn't have the singing voice that the A-bass does but it makes up for it with plenty of b@lls and thump.  i've wrestled with upgrading this bass to a series fretless but they're kinda hard to find in a 5-strings unlined fingerboard long scale lit neck stereo flavour, so i think we're gonna go like this for a while.  fyi i can play my fretted basses pretty much on auto pilot,  it takes a bit more mindfulness to keep a frettless on track.

cheers!

You guys are really sounding good. I think I said this before, but that drummer really keeps things feeling good.

....drummer really keeps things feeling good.

thanks.  i didn't know when i joined this band that these guys are all former 40-year full time musicians who all hit bottom with the various maladies that can befall you in this line of work.  somehow they came out intact on other end and managed to make it to the ripe old age that we share.  they're all ace musicians.  jeff's (the drummer) voice is absolutely phenomenal.  plus he's probably the most rock solid drummer i've ever played with.  i count myself fortunate to have fallen in with them.   it's a weird feeling to feel like my playing has reached an new peak at the age of 69, but there ya go.  kinda like a high tide raises all the boats.

we've got a break between shows, so i've been concentrating on working my 4-string fretless (the mighty A-bass) into our (mostly 5-string fretted) sets.  i'll post a keeper once i have one.

Wow!  You sure are busy up there.  Very impressive.  Bass tone is great!

You need to change your user name to Kenbass, keys&pedals.
