It really depends on which model you are comparing to... I don't mean to sound obtuse with the answer, but Spoiler is an inactive model. No Alembic is ever really discontinued, as they will still build you a new one. Spoiler controls are a condensed version, read; easy-to-use. A master volume, a lowpass filter (tone), a Q-switch to boost the cutoff point of this filter setting up by 8 dB, and a 4-position pickup selector switch that allows either or both pickups to be engaged or put in standby. It's a great entry into the Alembic world. My first, and still my 'main' Alembic is a Persuader 5-string, a variation on the Spoiler... (mine came with Fender-shaped P/J shaped pickups...) it's also a 32" medium-scale bass. No trouble whatsoever with the B here... plenty of low fundamental.
That's a beautiful bass, especially the birdseye maple. I think that price is a little bit inflated, but FC and Adriaan are much more in touch with the Netherlands economy than I am! (struggling to pick up some of the Dutch language...)
