« on: November 01, 2024, 11:09:30 AM »
Hi folks,
I'm trying to acquire my first Alembic bass and therefore looking desperately for a SCSD in top condition, preferably with red/amber side LEDs & walnut top and abalone inlays  8)
Thanks a lot for every offering & all the best,
Frank

Hi Frank,

There are so many of them on Reverb, depends on how much you're willing to pay, there are older ones, and brand new ones as well.
This one is not on Reverb, but it is brand new, with very unique feature (fingerboard binding), you almost never see on Alembics.

Blue side LEDs, but I have the same blue on my Europa and they are quite nice.  And cocobolo top/back instead of walnut that you prefer.

Hi Frank

I have something I might be willing to part with in the neighborhood of what you are seeking. However, your interest will depend on the extent to which what you are looking for needs to meet all of your specifications or just some. It’s a SC standard as opposed to deluxe but only for the fact that it doesn’t have a back laminate. It’s got amber side  LEDs and a crazy nice burl maple front lam with blackened hardware (see photo) The neck is not the typical maple but rather mahogany with two purpleheart and one maple stringer. It’s essentially in new condition as I purchased it from the family of an Alembican who unfortunately passed away in a bicycling accident shortly after he received the bass. I played it for about a month and then was lucky enough to acquire an SC Series I in Koa (my dream bass). Since then it’s basically been sitting in its case which is about 5 years. PM me if you have an interest.

Thank you very much for your replies - and also sorry for my late respond.
I did in fact see the SCSD at Northernlights as well as a very similar one on Bass Central. Just... a custom quote was too good to let it pass ;D as those CocoBolo's are really 90% of what I wanted just not much cheaper than a custom order. So I went all custom, although that means some patience...

Hi Frank,

That's cool!  Now the wait begins!
Congrats!   I thought you'd get a better deal from already-built in-stock basses, then again, if you go custom, you can omit a lot of the expensive stuff as well...
Very interested to hear what you got, if you don't mind sharing with us.

Hi Takeo,

thank you so much! Yeah, waiting is the hardest part I guess - though it's a bit like Christmas from what I remember when I was younger....
In the end, I went with Superb Walnut (Mahagony core w/ Maple accent), continous wood backplates, Bids Eye maple bound fingerboard w/ Ebony vaneer, 3 pos switch, Abalone ovals, Chrome hardware, led amber w/ red, Signature electronics. So, as I said, very close to the SCSDs in stock. I just absolutely love Walnut that's why Cocobolo had been a bitter pill to swallow.

I agree with you 100% on the Walnut.  This is my custom build from 14-years ago.  I saw an Alembic online at a guitar shop in Japan and sent Mica the photo indicating "I'd like something like this." Alembic being what they are...my bass was made from the same slab as the one I saw online.

Great choice, hammer! And she's still looking like fresh out of the box :)

Well, that photo was taken by Mica I believe before the bass was shipped to me so its even fresher than "fresh out of the box."
