Electronics in my 82 distillate
« on: October 17, 2024, 02:41:43 PM »
Hi there,
Just bought a 82 distillate with very poor electronics. For instance:
Volumepot defect and both the bass as well as treble cut/boost switches not working either.
Looks like sombody altered some things in there. See photo.
Its at my luthier here in Holland. Can any
one provide me with wiring diagram of this bass? I would be very greatfull.

Best regards,  Mark from Holland

Welcome! You've certainly come to the right place, and I'll move your post to the Troubleshooting section, where you may get a response from someone at the Mothership.

The electronics do appear a bit worse for wear, but I believe in the early 80s Distillates had the electronics mounted on this type of breadboard.

As far as scratchy pots and switches are concerned, that may actually be a symptom of them not having been used much. Just do a couple of dozens of full turns with the pots, and a couple of dozens flicks of the switches, and there's a good chance they return to function normally. In any case, do not use any fluids on them, especially on the fully-sealed pots.

However, there appears to be damage to some of the wires, so it's a good idea to have a luthier service it, but Alembic electronics are a little exotic to most people (no bridge grounding, etc.) so they might get confused. Seeing you're in Nederland, I would suggest taking it to Edwin van Huik in Blaricum.
