Great to hear you are healthy and housed, Dave.  It’s heartening that people do seem to rise to the occasion when facing overwhelming disaster.  Though it may say something about our society that the first utility to come back on-line was the cable/internet.  lol!

Glad to hear that you were able to return home David! Power seems to be slowly returning in a lot of the area but there are still huge hurdles to repairing all the damage in Asheville proper and with the roads and highways. My brother had evacuated from his house in Hendersonville to a hotel in Greensboro because of no power or water. Power in his neighborhood was restored late Sunday and he drove home yesterday. My friend Bill who has been living in Asheville proper is moving to Virginia. He and his partner know someone there who is a realtor and found them an affordable place to stay that takes pets. He told me that part of his decision to leave Asheville was that a number of venues he has been gigging at were destroyed by the flooding. Still wishing everyone in the area the best as the long process of clean up and restoration takes place.

Might be working with this organization upon my retirement in a couple weeks to help out at some struggling water treatment plants. https://www.vawarn.org/

As you might imagine, there's a lot of complication to some dude just walking in and saying - "hey, I'd like to help get your water plant back in order... what do you need staffing-wise?" but I got it in me once I'm done with my duty here, rather than wait for FEMA, I'll start with YOU. I think they can help with placement... I've helped out with other localities before through VA WARN, but in my official capacity rather than volunteering privately. Usually I knew who I was working with too... this probably be different.

Gregory helping others is a great gift.  It would be foolish to pass up on someone with your experience.
