Gibsons sound like farting into a pillow.
The only bass I've ever owned and no longer own* was a Gibson EB3. I don't know about "farting into a pillow" but I could never get a sound I liked out of it. I still have the bass that replaced it (much modified now).

* I have one or two that I could let go to finance another Alembic if I found the right one  ;)
