My thoughts on this (because I have 3 Series I basses and have considered it myself) is that the only difference makers (at least for me) would be adding a master volume control. As far as I know, there are no differences in PUs so unless you are referring to an RF upgrade because you are getting interference that really isn't necessary. The main difference would be having continuously variable Q (CVQ) versus 2 or 3 position Q switches that are the standard for a Series I. Personaly, I don't even use the switches that much as I run my rig through a Superfilter SF-2 (so that might be expected) and find the two positions along with the SF-2 to be more than sufficient. It would be have been nice to have had Alembic install LEDs when they had my shop night Series I for an electronics upgrade but that was something I didnt even think about at the time.
Given the amount of time you would be without your bass (I have no idea what the turnaround is at this time but the good folks at Alembic are typically pretty dang busy) and the cost you would incur (no idea), purchasing a used Superfilter might be something you would want to consider.
