I love a good serial number mystery... as we know, there is no hard and fast rule that governs all, but sequentially, 2001 should have been issued very late in 1981, or very early in 1982. I had Distillate #1986, completed in early December of 1981. Fifteen instruments between them seems unlikely.
I have a guess on this duplicate 78-2001, but I'll keep it to myself and wait to see what Mica's search turns up. Often more interesting than my wild imagination. It's a beautiful bass.
