My latest bass.
Graphite neck, koa top and back.
I have loved the looks of this bass when I first saw it in the Alembic brochure from that time.    When It came up for sale, I just had to have it.

Great score! Add me to the list of people blown away by the look of that bass when I got my catalog. Play it in good health. Also curious about the sonic differences of a graphite-necked Series bass compared to wood?

I like the graphite neck, although this one is a lot beefier than my other graphite Series II.    Chunky.   As far as the sound goes, there is definitely a difference.    More of an attack sort of thing, very lively and hard to play softly, if that makes sense.

Is this the one you got from a shop near Baltimore last year?

Yes, that is the one.

That was serendipity.  I had just bought a Series I from a club member when yours popped up for sale just up the road from me.  I hadn't been to that shop before, but planned to make a run up there that weekend just to see what the graphite neck was like.  That same night I was in the lobby of a local music school waiting for a voice lesson when a guy walked in to drop off a guitar he was donating.  We got to talking and I realized he owned the shop where your bass was.  I mentioned that folks on this board would probably love to see pictures if he was inclined to post them.

I was happy to see that it found a good home, and even happier that I didn't have to be tempted by it!

An even bigger temptation would have been the other bass he brought in on the same deal.  It was a pre-factory, short scale fretless PRS bass.  Apparently PRS bought that one as soon as they found out he had it.

Here's the back.
When I first got it, I sent the electronics back to Alembic because it was noisy.    When trying to dial out the hum, the hum cancellor trim pot was acting like a volume control.    Very strange.    They could not find anything wrong with the electronics, so the pickups were replaced with a matched set.    That took care of the issues!    I also had them convert the 1/4 jack to mono, I mostly use a wireless for live these days.

I get to use it for the first time tomorrow since the electronics have been repaired.    I have a session tomorrow, then a gig Friday.
