Bass Selfies in Stereo
« on: March 13, 2024, 10:04:16 AM »
I've been dealing with hand, shoulder and back issues since mid-december to the point where  it forced me to take myself outta the audition pool. so after a coupla months of rehab, i'm assessing my fitness for service.  as a parallel proiject, i think i figured out how to split my bass selfies into program in one channel, my bass in the other using my tablet and readily available store-bought equipment.  up until this point, i'd been using the pinhole mic on my tablet.   surprisingly, i can get better video on my high-$ pixel 7 pro but it won't record in stereo.  biff!

so here it is, warts and all.  my first "successful" take with the new recording rig.  gonna hafta play with mic placement and levels but the concept appears to be workable.  still getting twinges in my left shoulder when i slide up and down the neck but at least i don't grimace every time now.  i normally play this song on the fretless but the SII was handy so i grabbed it instead.  it's overdue for a string change, the ones on it are completely wasted so it works for this song.  i'm on the right, mostly

An aging body brings challenges - (speaking from experience).

The audio sounds really good on an old iPad.

Nice tone!  Love that tailpiece.  Hope the body issues resolve to good working order.

thanks.  everything on that bass is over the top, even its tone with dead strings.  so for an early st. patrick's day ceilidh,  i put a fresh set of rotos on it, dug out my best green hat and tye-dye, sdjusted my levels a little and played along with my new favorite irish band ,VOLORES.  i'm on the right channel. warts and all.

Nice man, such a beautiful bass!
The bass player’s function, along with the drums, is to be the engine that drives the car… everything else is merely colours.
