They gave the person about $4200 for the bass from the listed price which is usually 60% of that. That's "about" where and essence sells for so the person who bought the instrument for GC didn't know anything about Alembic.
well it's a cold and snowy day here in the mile high, i'm slightly bored (fixin to fix that) so i'll play along for a minute.
i'd be very surprised if they gave the seller that much, based upon a personal GC experience that i don't wanbt to relive here, i think maybe 50% of "market" value is more in line. i've had some interest in acquiring a bar-hopper and an essence fits the bill. so i've been watching the essence market in a casual sort of way. i know where i can get a nicely appointed (for an essence) essence for $2200 USD right now. there's another on reverb for $2.6k, been there for some time. bunch more for >$3.5kUSD that are going nowhere for the forseeable future.
this one's a little dressed up, but it's still an essence. no inlays. not alotta tonal variety. this one having a dark top and mahogany body is probably not gonna be that snappy sounding. that larger body will probably neck dive a little less than a standard essence. $6999.99 USD. spend a little more and you can get an entry-level series I based on what's listed on reverrb right now. plus it's "vintage". you know what
that means!
