Just when I thought I had seen every kind of improvisation in a bass, I get an upright in yesterday with a
square soundpost. Not just like a piece of square tomato stake cut to fit, noooo... this was a a piece of maple, with bridge feet-like contours made onto each end, and somewhat fit to the inner surfaces. It had to take someone a good while to make this doohicky, and I'll salute the idea and effort involved, if not endorse it. Thank goodness it wasn't glued (or screwed) in, because I'll be replacing it later this week with a boring old round, spruce length.
