And it was never closed
« on: December 13, 2023, 11:32:23 AM »

56 years ago today, those at Shrine Auditorium in LA witnessed the first opening of the portal into "Dark Star".
Alas, there appear to be no recordings of that show available (at least not on deadlists or archive).

I forget if it was Jerry or Mickey who said "I think 'Dark Star' is always playing somewhere, and we just tap into it now and then."

Wasn’t at the Shrine that night, but I was in attendance at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino on February 26, 1977, for the first performances of Terrapin and Estimated Prophet.  I did see a few shows at the Shrine back then.  Ed Davis, the extremely rightwing L.A. police chief, put up big signs  proclaiming: “WARNING: The is Not a Haven For Pot Smoking”.  People were searched on the way in and numerous arrests were made.

Sounds like a fitting predecessor to Daryl "Blacks are dying in custody because they're more susceptible to chokeholds than normal people" Gates.......

Peter (who will add that in the late '70s, the Jo Daviess County, IL, Sheriff's office had a sign by the front desk:  "Don't like cops?  Next time you need help, call a hippie!"  And who, himself, has always found hippies to be far more helpful!)

Sort of sounds like Dark Star was woven through this Dancin’ in the Streets…
