Suggestions for Live Music in Hickory, N.C.?
« on: October 02, 2023, 07:52:15 PM »
I’ll be in Hickory, N.C., this week.   Anyone know a good place for live music on a weekday evening?   Suggestions appreciated.

Well, my baby sister & dad live in Salisbury, about 1 hr east of there; but he'd tell you all about Andre Ruehle, and she'd probably either steer you to '80s hair metal or current "bro-country" - but they could steer you to a top-notch BBQ joint.

My younger cousin Andy Ferrell plays all around that area, Bill. I don't see anything real close to Hickory soon, most further out toward Boone or Asheville. Both of which are a nice place to visit this time of year. https://m.facebook.com/theandyferrell/

It’s a quick in and out trip.  My older brother passed away yesterday and the funeral is Thursday.  I’ll be in town two nights.  Between travel and family, I’ll only have time for a little local entertainment in the evening.  I plan on staying on California time which entails a couple of late nights.

Oh man, sorry about the circumstances Bill. That area is home to most of my extended family, and has been for years. We settled out there after we got here in the mid-1630's, and most never left. I don't get down there enough to know what's where anymore, but I bet there's some music happening somewhere during your stay.

Condolences, Bill.  As you know, I lost a brother a couple years ago; siblings hurt like few others.  We'll be thinking of you.

Sorry to hear about your brother.

For a midweek place that plays music I think you will be more likely to find that in one of the college towns or larger metropolitan areas. From Hickory you are talking about a drive slightly over an hour to Asheville, Charlotte, Boone or Winston-Salem.

Sorry to hear of your brother's passing.

When I lived in the area a few decades ago, Hickory had a really nice minor league baseball stadium.  My parents got their undergraduate degrees there (in Hickory, not at the stadium); and my grandfather worked in a cotton mill there long ago.  I was there just yesterday charging the car on the way to meet someone about some speakers.  But I don't know anything about nightlife in Hickory.
