Turner Model One with Alembic pickup on Reverb
« on: September 26, 2023, 06:37:19 AM »
This one is hotter than a two-dollar pistol. https://reverb.com/item/73842387

Don't bite; the seller who probably has, or had this guitar is in New York. I recognize his collection and residence in the background. That, and the price is ridiculously low for what he normally aims for.

Can confirm. The owner of this guitar is my neighbor in NY. Shouldn't be located in NM.

Don't know how much good it will do, but I reported it as a fake account. Reverb really needs to get a handle on this nonsense.

Spoilers!

This one has five-star feedback based on 1,170 transactions.  That might be a new development for these fakes, as all the ones I've noticed before were new accounts with no feedback.  Have the scammers figured out a way to hijack legitimate accounts?

There's been a lot of that on eBay.

eBay may have figured out how to stop or at least slow it down as I haven't seen anything in a while. Scammers somehow take over an account and post stuff at silly low prices. You start scrolling through the pictures, and you'll come to one that says "Do not bid! Bids will be cancelled. Email us direct" or something along those lines.

The only reason I posted this one, (really twofold) is because it's a tricky one. The price isn't silly-low, it's almost believable. That's actually about what a Model One CLB cost several years ago. This one is modded, and I've actually seen it before at another shop. It has an Alembic pickup (part two of why I posted it here), and some kind of Bartolini switching/blending, which makes it function more like a Model Two... I just know that guitar, at least the pictures of it, are not in New Mexico. If this seller is legitimate, then he is using someone else's pictures.

Something definitely isn't right, as another Club Member verified it does belong to their neighbor in New York.

I am constantly amazed at how online scams work. Crooks get more inventive by the minute.

A major reason why all but one of my Alembics have been purchased from Club members. And the one that wasn't was made for me at the mothership.

Pictures and ad copy have been changed. I believe this is a legitimate ad now, so if you want a very-modified Model One, in a rare color, well... this might be your huckleberry.

With apologies to the shop, I hereby rescind my [SCAM ALERT] suspicions.
