kING pow playing at the lion's lair 8/24
« on: August 15, 2023, 07:39:28 AM »
to celebrate my official un-retirement from performing, my band is gonna play a hour show starting at 9:30p on 8/24 at the lions lair on east colfax denver colorado usa:

http://lionslairlounge.squarespace.com

im gonna be packing the mighty MKDeluxe freshly strung with new rotosound rounds blasting through the markbbass mix-n-match combo set (described elsewheres around here somewheres).

this will be our 5th time playing together, so it's gonna be loud, loose and fulla juice. this is a little change of genre for me.  half the songs require a B-string.  pounded.  hard.  in the low registers.  i'm dragging 500 watts of amp on stage with me and i'm hoping it's gonna be enuff.  apparently, this is gonna be a live audition for bigger gigs.  our singer is well-connected with a lot of the local event venues and it's gonna be packed tight with a lot of eyes and ears on us.  so - no pressure.

haven't played in front a live crowd in 6 years.  already told 'em i can't do the whole set standing up.  i've got 10 years on the next youngest guy in the band, the rest are mid-40's.  they were shocked when i told 'em how old i was at the last rehersal.  so if ya wanna see a 67-year-old burnout leave whatever's left of himself on stage, drop on by.  i'll buy ya a round.  or getcha high in the parking lot.  or both.

Been down...now i'm out!

Sounds like fun!   Being 68 with spinal stenosis, I also find it difficult to stand the whole time.   I use one of these foldable stools.   Works great, light and easy to transport, and it doubles as an instrument stand.   I figure the drummer is sitting, the keyboardist is sitting.  Jeff “Skunk” Baxter sat, so it’s good enough for me!   I still spend most of the time on my feet, especially when I’m singing, but I sit in between songs and when my back is acting up. Good luck with the gig.  As posted elsewhere on this site, Wolf (Sonicus) and I are also in a newly launched band.  It can be exciting.

Hey Tim... enjoy your time back in the saddle, the gigging routine will become second nature again more quickly than you can imagine. Hope the show goes well and it leads to many more!

Speakers look great.  Excited for you.  Your start time would work for me… it’s the distance that gets in the way.
Have fun.  And trust me, making “bass face” really DOES help the groove. 😀

so i just finished giving the  set the final run-thru last night and i get a text that our singer has fallen ill with cluster headaches and had to pull the plug on the show tonight.

kinda mixed on this one.  my second failure to launch.  i was totally pumped to play.  but this woulda been our 5th time playing in the same room together.  it was pulling together, wasn't too worried about having a train wreck on stage.  takeoffs and landings were a little shaky.  the whole show maybe a just a little questionable in the polish department but, hey!  it's rock and roll, right?

so we're gonna regroup and give it another go.  hopefully, nobody's flying into town to check us out.  ::)
