Fleetwood Mac releasing a "Rumours - Live" album
« on: July 20, 2023, 04:40:10 PM »
I'm on the mailing list of course, so I get these little updates... that probably everybody in the universe but me already knows about, what with all the social media platforms that I don't want or care for.

It's exciting, because prior to this, I've only heard a couple songs from the storied shows that happened in August, 1977 at The Forum in L.A. The band was fresh off the first World Tour in support of a blockbuster record, and the album's producer Ken Caillat brought the Record Plant mobile truck to record the homecoming shows. The album, as I understand it, is from the 8/29/77 show. (there were three altogether...) It does include "Oh, Well", along with the track listing you expect from Rumours, and a couple surprises that didn't get played much. (please, please, please have "I Don't Wanna' Know" on there!) If earlier releases are any indication, the rest of the audio is going to be fantastic.

It's also exciting, because John would likely have been playing both Alembics, 73-27 and 76-057A on these shows.

Just pre-ordered myself a two CD set.  :)

Looked at the track listing. Unfortunately, "I Don't Wanna Know" was not on there, but "Blue Letter" is, from the 1975 'White' album, and also "Oh, Daddy"... I could listen to Christine sing that one for a while.

I pre-ordered the CD set. I'm waiting to decide about the LP version ("completist" force is strong, however).

"Dreams" from 8/29/77 at The Forum show... bass is very nice in the mix.

Speaking of rumours... I keep reading these little internet leaks about Mick trying to get the band back together for another run. Word is, getting Stevie and Lindsey to bury the hatchet won't be impossible, but John is retired from touring. I'm conflicted on this one... I'd love to see them go around again, but there literally can't be a Mac in Fleetwood Mac without John.

Here's my suggestion; first, offer to carry John piggy-back, if need be, to every stage, and hand his bass to him, and a bag with an obscene amount of money in it. Season tickets to his favorite soccer team wouldn't hurt. If that plan fails, Mick should absolutely retire the band name Fleetwood Mac out of respect for his longtime partner John, Peter Green and Christine McVie, without whom none of them would be where they are.

If I were him, I'd try to capitalize on the obvious soap opera out front. Whats-it, 45 years of fighting now? Is it finally time for a Buckingham Nicks tour? Those songs oughta' be heard again, and there's even some potential for crossover. I'd go see that. And I wouldn't feel so bad that John wasn't on bass. But good luck trying to convince me that band functions without John on bass playing those Fleetwood Mac songs for two hours a night on a world tour. Simply ain't happenin'.

All that aside, these live takes sound really good!

Got my copy in today's mail... the audio is astonishing. And the band just sounds incredible. Man, they were really on their collective games here... 'specially John.  :)

I agree, Greg. Nice mix with good articulation of detail when you want it. I haven't listened to the lps yet, but I'm very happy with the cd sound on this one. McVie was really on his game.

This is what they're going to have to do.  You can have a FM without Lindsey, but without Christine?  Forget it.

Sure you can.

But you can't have FM without some combination of Green, Kirwan, and/or Spenser.......

I was actually positing, it would not, and could not be without John. Peter Green after all, named the band after his rhythm section. The rest of those poor guys, and Christine, may they all rest in Peace. They are all gone now.

I reckon with the Lahaina fire aftermath, Mick has bigger things to rebuild anyway.

Received the double LP yesterday.  Nice 180gm discs - very heavy :)   The sound quality is superb - makes my stupidly huge investment in LP playback well worth it. Nice shot of Mick with one of his Alembics in the centre spread.

I have looked and looked at that picture trying to figure out which Alembic John was playing there... I think it's #73-27, rather than the "Continuously Fretted" Custom from '76. I only say that, because it doesn't appear to have the shiny stainless steel fingerboard. It does look like the symmetrical shape of the older one, but it could just be the angle of the picture.

I hope they have more of these recordings. I sure have enjoyed these.
