Yes and no. Depends on the make. Rickenbackers used went up but have recently been more of a hard sell, plus new supply is starting to keep up with demand somewhat. Vintage 4001's are at top dollar but sales are slow for these fine instruments. Many folks are still asking top dollar for higher end fenders, but I don't think they are selling all that well at those prices. Vintage Gibson bass guitars are not selling well and prices are coming down. Rare old Musicman and BC Rich are still at high prices (think 5K for a 1976 Stingray) but are not selling well.
Like it or not, we are in a recession. Working musicians are having a hard time. Those just starting out playing are thinking twice about how much they spend, and hobbyists are being stingy with dwindling dollars. Alembic, being at the high end of the market, are still going for a lot of money to those who either have money, or to those who want to realize a lifelong dream (many whom are older).
