Introducing “Dead Enough”
« on: July 05, 2023, 09:51:18 AM »
Wolf, (Sonicus), and I have helped co-found a new band:  “Dead Enough”.  Our first gig is later this month.  All Bay Area Alembicians, and anyone visiting out this way are invited.

Looks good, Bill and Wolf, I’d surely go if I was in your area :)

Bet you all will have a blast.  The pot luck feature sounds like a bonus.

It's a great "only in Berkeley" venue.  More like a big living room filled with old black light posters, record albums, old People's Park and other protest photos (the owner was a hippie photographer back in the day), and about 15-20 Lava amps on the house piano.  It also has a light show, but, with a nod to modern technology, it is projected by computer ... no glass plates, oil, water, and overhead projector.  Aside from chairs, there are a couple of couches and a fireplace.  People bring food and drinks.  It all goes on a table in the back and everyone grazes.   The place is about 10 minutes from me, and about 1/2 mile from Wolf.  And with the music at 7-10 p.m., no 2:00 a.m. load outs, or schlepping equipment from the car into the house at an ungodly hour.  Real comfy place to play.

We had a rehearsal tonight, went through the set list for Friday, except for Dark Star.   (You don’t practice Dark Star, you PLAY Dark Star!).

I feel lucky playing with these guys.  Four of us have played in different projects with each other over the years, but this configuration, with a lead guitarist we found on craigslist, really seems to click.   Wolf (Sonicus) on bass, strong drummer who knows the material cold, excellent keyboard player with strong lead vocal.  The lead guitarist came from a craigslist ad.  Really gets the Jerry thing without just copying.

We’re even playing a couple of old Pigpen tunes (the keys guy loves Pig): “Chinatown Shuffle” and “The Stranger (Two Souls in Communion)”

The first gig is coming up... just a couple days away now. Have ya' picked out a guitar or two yet?  ;)

Have a good gig, and play "Tennessee Jed", for me.  :)

Haven’t worked out TJ yet, maybe for the next gig.
Guitar-wise, I plan on bringing two:

The Franken-Strat I out together with Warmoth body (Flame Koa over Black Korina), Modulus Blackknife neck, and Alembic PUs and electronics. (seen here: https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=16621.msg167889#msg167889);

My Ferlembic (Fernandes Masterhand with Alembic guts).  (seen here: https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=20043)

I was considering bringing my ‘76 Series 1, but my back is really barking at me these days and the Series 1 is a bit on the heavy side.

I as well look forward to the continued cultivation and development of the aspect of familiar musical interaction that can occur within this genre of music and improvisational art forms. It is such lightning in a planed perfect storm that I seek within this music genre ,whilst in the flow of consciousness. That MAGIK in the brightest darkness gathers my interest. To achieve such musical alchemy, one needs the correct elemental ingredients. It is my belief that DEAD ENOUGH contains such elements that shalt extrapolate gold trinkets from the fog of unbeknownst origins for the ears of our listeners.

The gig was a blast!   Decent size crowd for the venue, VERY enthusiastic response.  Heck, we even had a few twirlers!  The videos are starting to pop up on youtube.  Here’s a  couple from the first set:

Really nice sound quality, listening on an iPad and Wolf’s bass has clarity.  Recall another video from a few years back where Wolf was with you and it had the same great production.  Does Philip do the sound and audio for you guys all the time?
