Activator Project for an Ibanez Musician!
« on: June 05, 2023, 07:15:45 AM »
My original intention was to build a jazz bass for this set of Actilvators I purchased here. For now I'm wanting to install them and a filter system on my Ibanez Musician bass. My plan is the make wooden inserts for the pickups that are the same size as the factory pickups that will house the Alembic pickups. Idea is not to modify the bass itself so I can be returned to the original condition if I decide to sell it.

So, the filter system that I "think" I can pull off is two volume, master volume, two filter, two Q switch and a pickup switch. The hardware I have that is pictured are two Alembic volume pots, 170-043 and 170-044, an Alembic filter and two aftermarket Alembic filter clones with Q switches. First problem before I do anything is the Alembic filter knob does not turn freely so it may need to have the pot replaced. Second is I don't have an additional pot for the Master volume and don't know what value it would need to be. Third is I have almost ZERO budget for this modification..lol (Great idea eh?)

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance and will update this thread as I start the process.

Dan!! The first bass I installed those JTex Distillers in was a '79 Ibanez Musician.

What do you *want* to end up with...?
Filter per pickup with Q switches, individual volumes and a master volume? Why have the pickup switch at all with that setup?

With the distillers, you can do the following setup (blessed by Jerry, himself):
Pickup -> 500k Volume -> Distiller \
-------------------------------              2gang 25k/25k Master Volume
Pickup -> 500K Volume -> Distiller /

You can always call me to talk through this. I might even have some pots leftover I can send you.
