well i was out in hte hot tub getting baked when i felt a disturbance in the force.  open up the interweb,  lo and behold,  my pot habit has made world headlines again.  and again.  and again.

in other news, a sweet cocobolo series II apparently got sold at a fire sale price to an unscrupulous carpetbagger who is now way over the skis at $14950.   good luck to all!

pot keeps getting cheeper around here, pretty soon they're gonna hafta start giving it away.

Not sure I agree that the previous price was a fire-sale price but it was much more in line with reality and probably didn't involve being marked up by a flipper. There is also no guarantee that the previous seller even got paid what they had it listed for. Nice older Series II bass, though.

absolutely.  but i don't believe for a second that the original seller got what he was asking for it.  likely, he was getting desparate, got lotsa lookie-loos and tyre-kickers but nothing solid so dude shoots him a low-ball, he's got the wife on his back to get rid of the friggin' thing already so he takes a haircut.  high and tight if ya catch my drift.

or i could be completely wrong.  wouldn't be the first time.  but what was probably a pretty good deal at $11k USD (had i been in the market for that kind of bass, i probably woulda pulled the trigger dontcha know) certianly isn't at $14.95k USD.  imho  ymmv and all that rot.  pretty sure i'm not wrong about that

but we shall see.  after all, it's only worth what someone's willing to pay for it.

if you're a musician, no.
if you're a bottom feeder who cares nothing about the instrument but only see it as a $$ cow, yes.

Here we go again...

Yes, I have been selling guitars and pro audio gear professionally for over 15 years now.

This is like complaining that the sky is blue. Yes, I sell gear and I will continue to sell gear.
If I see a good deal on something I like, I buy it. Most of the time, I am able to turn a profit, sometimes I just get to enjoy a pice of gear for a short time and lose a little or break even.
It is a joy to be able to make a living doing something I love.
You all can speculate all you want and make fun of me, call me a flipper, or whatever your preferred term is as that is apparently allowed here on this site but at the end of the day, it doesn't change anything. I sell high end guitars and gear and I will continue to do so.
Not sure how it helps to continually gripe about something like this.

I buy, sell and trade gear. Thousands of people do it. No big deal. Ebay and Reverb are full of people that do the exact same thing.
Every store you walk into is doing essentially the same thing.

Though you may disagree with the fact hat I buy and sell gear, I am also a human being with feelings like the rest of you. If you wish to insult me please do it in private.

Live and let live.

Back to the bass that was the focus of this thread...
The beautiful Cocobolo Series  II.
I think the main reason it didn't sell quicker, despite the good price, is the tight string spacing.
It is about the equivalent of 16mm, so several other potential buyers were deterred from purchasing.
I thought about and thought about it and finally pulled the trigger after it had been for sale for a good amount of time.
It is definitely tighter spacing than I would usually play but for someone else, particularly the people that use picks, it will be a wonderful fit.

All in all, the bass is in wonderful condition. It was definitely in need of TLC when it arrived. The action was super high, dead strings, and the previous owner admitted that he never really even played the thing in all the time he had it.

So she is all cleaned up and dressed and ready for a new owner now. Wonderful bass.

well for my part i disagree.  i gripe about my necks going wonky.  nobody gets uypset.  but it's america here the last time i checked my arrest record so we're all entitled to our opinions.  even if the incoherent rants come from a has-been stoner who thinks he's still the bee's knees.

it wasn't all complaining- i wished ya luck with the sale.  and i still do.  it's a nice bass.  it deserves a nice player for an owner.  good luck with your sale, sir!   i'll check back with ya in a year or 2
