Just joined the Series II Club

Hey All,
 
I wasn't planning on it but I saw a used Series II 5 String on the net last week, and it called my name.  I stewed about it all weekend and decided to make the plunge.  The bass arrived yesterday.
 
I thought my Europa had a beautiful tone, this thing is in a whole other stratosphere!  I'm envisioning many happy years with this bass.
 
There is one negative, however, that I'm going to have to deal with.  It's the short upper horn, different center of gravity, neck dive thing.  I've tried a few of my straps and have yet to find one that is totally comfortable.  If any of you folks have some words of wisdom for me with this issue, I'd sure appreciate it.

Did you happen to be the lucky guy who picked up this sweetie from G Guitars?  This is the only bass that had me thinking wonder what I can get for my 5 string?  Regarding the balance thing---I have a 3 wide leather strap with fleece on the bottom.  The fleece makes it sorta stick to my shoulder.  My bass weighs over 13 lbs, and has the short upper horn, but I don't have a balance problem.

Now that I think of it, you may need to go beyond my wide strap solution.  My 13 pounder is solid body and full size, so there is quite a bit of weight in the body.  If you have the bass in the picture I posted, it's a 3/4 body and might even be semi hollow.  That would concentrate a greater percentage of the weight in the neck.  Have to give that one some thought.

You are correct sir.  It was the bass from GGuitars.  In fact, it was your post on one of the message boards that pointed me in the right direction.  Thanks, I appreciate it.
 
With regards to the balance issue, I beleive you are also right about the semi-hollow thing.  I did a search on straps last night and found this contraption that works like a Baby Bjorn (those who've had little one's know exactly what I'm talking about).  The main difference is instead of a real baby, it's an Alembic baby.  I ordered it and it should arrive early next week.
 
I was considering returning the bass early on because of the balance issue, but after a night of playing it, I'm totally hooked.  I guess if it requires me to build up some extra muscles, so be it.

Bones, please let us know more about the strap you have found, and how well it works. Another option is the Comfort Strap, it has a 3 foam pad mounted on a nylon strap, it stopped the neck diving on my Series 1, and carries the weight, I'm back to playing my Series 1 alot more, but I'm allways looking for a better Strap

PS: don't forget the Strap locks, and when it's not on you , it's in the case!! Stands are the leading cause of broken necks.

stands are the leading cause of broken necks?  can you elaborate a little more on that?  do you just mean because the get knocked off stands, or are you referring to more than that?

No, somebody just walking across the stage and tripping on a cord or your cord and knocking over the bass. The bast place for the bass is in the case if it's not hanging under your face!!!
