Incredible gig with a band of young musicians. He played double bass all night although there were a couple of alembics on stands in adjacent to his bass rigs.
Fortunately I was able to get to the band's hotel as Travis had a couple of his albums to air on my radio programme.
I got to have a conversation with Stanley about the gig and the tour. He also introduced me to his wife Sofia who is a lovely lady.
When I told I was learning to play double bass he reached out and shook my hand and told me it was an excellent decision.

I asked him what made him decide to play DB all night when he had the two alembics and he responded that he knew a lot of people there wanted to see him play them but he said the decision to play electric bass really depends on the acoustics in the room and a lot of theatres are not suitable for electric bass as the sound is so boomy. Tonight was one of those rooms so he chose not to use them.
At least i know now.

I had a longer chat with Travis and asked him if he has any influence on the venues they gig in to see if Stanley to perform in Birmingham (my home town) again as I had not seen him there since the first Clarke Duke Project around 1982 there.  It's centrally located and there is a large fan base there. Let's hope he can make it work for the next tour.

Did i say it was a great gig...... WOW such talent on the stage.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!
