I think we agree it's price too high but a gorgeous example!

What would be a fair price for this Spoiler? It plays great and is pretty darn clean for a 37 year old bass.

Depends on the buyer's opinion I guess. If you look at the last 10 sold Spoilers on Reverb the average price was $3954.91. Now these are all custom basses so they are priced for different spec or good looking top wood ect. We are seeing an upward trend with used alembic prices.

If the price listed would make you happy as a buyer then it is a fair price for you. Most of the board have seen prices over the decades and my find it to high. Which is why I made the comment in the OP.

Thank you @fivestringdan. $4K does seem like the sweet spot at the moment. Two Spoilers sold (quickly) outside of Boston last year for $2.5K, but they seemed like an anomaly.

well when ya got a pretty nice (imho  ymmv  etc. & so forth) series II on reverb for $11k and at least 2 more that i can think of right off hand for ~$10k USD as we speak, then $5k is probably unrealistic for this instrument.  kinda glad i'm not selling in this market, actually now that i think about it

nice bass.  bear in mind that it's medium scale.  not that there's anything wrong with that.

This is the perspective I was wanting to hear about pricing. Agree completely, There was a Series I that sold around 4k not long ago on reverb. Would rather invest my money there if I had the choice.

aslo worth noting is that all of the aforementioned mentioned series II's are still for sale as of this posting.   i'm looking at the churn in hte job market and economy and i'm guessing that w'ere gonna see a gradual increase of the trickle of prized possessions onto the market that are probably gonna sell for less than originally hoped for asking price, dontcha know..  glad i'm not working in tech anymore.  or anywhere else for that matt3r.  i'm currently loaded up on high-end basses but i'm sure there's opportunity to be had for the well-heeled hunters out there.

I know of the one in Boston that is for sale. Where is the other?
