Floods-Hope All Are Well

Saw a report this morning; it looks pretty bad.

Fortunately we’re on top of a hill at about 1500 ft. altitude, so we don’t have to worry about flooding.  But it has snowed here four times in the last 10 days!   Previously, it had snowed here once in 20 years.   At least the snow pack is quite high and this should go far in alleviating the drought we’ve had for the last several years.

Actually thought about putting this in "Scenery":  One of my sisters is having a house built in Incline Valley, NV (which, for those old enough to recall the reference, occupies the NW corner of the Ponderosa).  Note the dud with the shovel in front of the center pile for scale.....

Here in our neck of the woods this winter we have had several large wet snow falls, ‘typical’ single digit cold days intermingled with temperatures reaching towards 50F.   Snow melts, then another system moves in.   My concern is the impact on growth cycles - over two months ago there were some trees starting to bud out- certainly a lot earLier than normal.

Mother Nature will adapt, I am concerned as to how ‘man’ will react.

I hope folks are doing well. I use to live not too far from San Luis reservoir and I was reading it is about 95% full which is well over its historical average for anytime of year. There has been an awful lot of snow and rain this year. It should make for a good flower season but at the cost of a worse fire season as all of the grasses and scrub go into growth overdrive from all of the moisture.

No flooding here but after the rain stopped yesterday we had a high wind event and lost power for about 14 hours. Original estimate was for it to be restored tonight around 6 PM but power came on around 3 AM. Pole still needs to be replaced, though, hopefully they won't have to shut off power again for an extended time to do so. Being without electricity is challenging but nothing compared to what families in the flooded areas are going through. What a mess!
