strange sound
« on: March 11, 2023, 07:58:41 AM »

I have an alembic europa that i was very happy with it.suddenly today, i try to play through my amp.when i use both of the pickups everything was ok.when i try to use only the bridge i hear a noiz and a sound like whistle. i change the baterry but nothing change. i open the cover and i pull off the pickups connectors.when i pull off the one that you can see on the photo i send you, the sound stops. i put some spray (deoxit d5) and now everything it's ok.
Do you think that the problem it was some 'spary or something else.
sorry for my bad english

Hi Mumra, you might also try “exercising” the control knobs.  Turning the control knobs fully in each direction about fifty or more times.  That should remove any oxidation that may have built up over time in the pots, which are sealed.  Glad to hear it is working again at the moment! :)

Hey murma,

We're glad you're enjoying your Europa.  As rv said, exercise the pots and switches by sweeping and switching them 50+ times.  I am pretty sure those connectors are gold plated so there should not be any oxidation there.  And since the pots and switches are sealed we don't recommend using any chemical sprays. It is possible that simply moving everything physically to unplug and replug that connector "shocked" your preamp board out of its bad behavior.  But we still recommend exercising the controls.  Let us know if you have any more trouble.

Don't worry, I'm sure you did no any harm with the spray.  Just wanted to explain that it probably won't help either.  The only other spot which can wear on these basses is the 1/4" jack.  So sometimes that's worth looking at closely.

Let us know if you have any other trouble.

I had a similar-but-different issue with my Rogue. Went to a band rehearsal, there was a Quilter combo there so I plugged in and played a few tunes on it. Band members complained that there was a high frequency noise (that I couldn't hear). Brought in my trusty GK Backline 112, problem solved. Some digital gear (and this includes phones, routers, computers etc.) will induce various weird noises, and just to make it more fun, not the same noises in different instruments.

Hi Daffy.  Your pickups already have four screws.  Two of them are below the pickups, and two, the ones you can see, are on top.  The two below set the height and the two above lock it down.  That’s Alembic’s simple but surprisingly effective design.
