Thanks for posting this; haven't seen his passing in the news yet, though there is an initial update to his wikipedia page.

One of the most talented, original, and amazing musicians I’ve ever heard.    An incredible multi-instrumentalist.    I had the good fortune to have seen him live numerous times in small venues (as well as huge ones with Jackson Browne).  The last time was, IIRC, shortly before the pandemic when I saw him at Yoshi’s in Oakland's Jack London Square.  This one hurts.  Think I’ll be listening to his wonderful album El Rayo-X a bunch this weekend.

Lots of talent in that guy.  My mother in law was a huge fan… she crossed over more than a decade ago - I can see her smiling now.

For me after it's all said and done, slide is the only justification for living with those short-necked six-string
monstrosities, especially when it's used like this:

This is one of those recordings that is just subliminally bad-ass, that when you're in the car you just TURN IT UP and draw funny looks from the cars around you. A real craftsman, like Ry Cooder, Lindley added just so much to the recordings for others and his own with an amazingly unique outlook and skill set. Will be missed.

I think it was George Gruhn who called him "The poster boy for the Valco Guitar Company"; a massive talent.

I saw him at this show, El Rayo X  was fantastic.  Oddly I happened to watch this video earlier this week, I think that is him playing slide in the background….shine on..

Yup, that’s Mr. Lindley playing the lap steel on legs.
