https://www.vintageguitar.com/41251/classics-june-2022/ Reading this and seeing the Pyramids on the bass when it was for sale confirms the versatility of the original --Chromesteel-- Pyramids when used on an Alembic. Mica has my original rare Pyramid set at Alembic right now. David says he never fully boosted the Q switches on his LSB in this interview.

Keith, the strings in the photo with the violet silk wrapping looks like current long scale Pyramid Gold flatwound strings. Those are the strings I used to use on all of my Alembics, but the tension is really high. It didn’t bother me for playing, but I got so worried about what it was doing to the neck and tailpiece that I stopped using them.  The tuning knobs would get so tight I wound wince at the potential to snap a G or B string when putting on a new set.  And on the two older basses I currently have with wood and brass tailpieces the tension on the pyramids would lift the ends of the tailpiece (screws were secure).  So, I stopped using them for fear of damaging the basses.  Great sounding strings though :)

Each version is really unique. Not many brands have a defined signature like Pyramid.

I have TI Jazz Flats on my maple topped 5 string Series 1 and it's a glorious combination.  Low tension too.

A great interview for sure. Not many interviews where an artist mentions the Q switch, and the problems some people had with him using a non-Fender bass.

I'm a huge David Hood (and the Swampers) fanboy, so many of those sides are etched in my memory.

My favorite Muscle Shoals story:

Paul Simon had heard The Staples 'I'll Take You There' and loved it, and wanted his manager to go find the reggae band that cut the album with Pops and the girls.  After a few calls, he has to tell Paul, 'they're not Jamaicans, they're four rednecks from Alabama'!
