How to check a DS-5 before trying it on my Series 1
« on: February 07, 2023, 10:50:49 AM »
Hello -

I have a DS-5 coming from overseas, I will be converting it to 110V (USA) voltage.

Before I plug it in to my beloved Series 1, what can I check with my multimeter to make sure it is functioning as it should?

I'm reasonably competent with electronics and a multimeter.

I appreciate your suggestions!

Thanks,

Thomas

Hi Thomas!

I can't remember the voltage on pins 4 and 5, but I believe it's between 18-24v. I would recommend you check for no connection and no voltage between pins 2 and 3 with ground, and each other. Then measure the voltage of 4 and 5 against the ground. I'd also make sure that ground and the barrel are connected with no voltage. I think that's it, but I'm sure someone in the club will holler if I'm an idjit!

This is the 5 PIN pinout
1) GROUND
2)Neck pickup
3)Bridge pickup
4)+ volts
5)- volts
