Someone on Instagram posted a short clip of Musical Youth (and other acts) from the Honda Centre.  Looks like it was a lot of fun!

Our set tonight at the Greek Theatre was dropped to 2 songs.
But i’m glad to have had the opportunity to play at such a fine venue.

Nice gig tonight at the Mountain Winery in Sarasota.
It was great to have forum member Harry & his lovely wife come along for the gig.
Last show tomorrow and we are doing a 6 minute set.

Was going to put this in the recent gathering thread, but this seems more appropriate!

I always hoped I'd get to see jazzyvee play live with Musical Youth - and it finally happened! The free tickets from the bass player definitely helped - that place is expensive! At least we got to see the expanded three song version! I thought it sounded great, will try and post some video tomorrow.

Pass the dutchie!

Bill, tgo
It was interesting hearing from audience members i spoken to who happily recalled passing spliffs to each other because they thought that was what the song was about. What was more interesting was the look of surprise when i told them that a 'Dutchie' is actually a cooking pot. The original version was by the Jamaican reggae band 'The Mighty Diamonds' called Pass the Cutchie which is a pipe for smoking ganja. There was no way the record company would allow those kids to record a song about smoking weed so the lyrics were changed.

Well now we've all learned something else from Vince!  Although I had very limited knowledge and experience myself, I always presumed that song was about passing a joint.  Funnily enough, there are several "urban dictionaries" which refer to a "Dutchie" as "a joint made from a Dutch Masters Cigar".  So the song may have actually inspired a "new use" of that brand of tobacco products.  8)

But I suppose since the original song was in fact about passing the pipe, the whole thing was kind of an inside joke.  What a funny story!

Thanks Vince.  Glad you had a great time on the tour.  They often ask the participating bands to come back so maybe we'll see you again the next time around.

I also was not aware of what a "Dutchie" was, my first exposure to the song was the Mighty Diamond's "Pass the Kutchie" which was definitely not about a cooking vessel.

Sorry to have missed meeting Vince this week due to a lot of time spent caring for our aging Alaskan Malamute Samson who is approaching the end of his life cycle. I was walking him this morning and while talking to a neighbor I found out that he and his wife saw Vince play at Mountain Winery yesterday, they enjoyed both the Musical Youth set and the whole show. They are probably in their mid to late-50s and had never seen any of the bands on the bill previously. They also loved the venue.

Hope your last show goes well and you head back to the UK with lots of good memories about the trip!

Last show went well even though we only did one song. We were the second band on so i am staying to watch all the other bands. Night Ranger are just about to come on to finish the event.

Sounds like the tour was fun.  Interesting that the promoters only gave you time for one song on the last stop.  We’re other band abbreviated also?

Uploaded our video of Saturday night's show at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA:

My battery was almost gone so I asked my wife to do some video - didn't realize she was going to do the whole show!

(I have it up as an unlisted video so can't embed it but you should be able to click on the link)
